Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering (B.S.P.E.)

Description: In the Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering (B.S.P.E.) program, students delve into a comprehensive array of core courses and topics essential for understanding the complexities of the Oil and Gas industry. The objective of the Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering program is to graduate practical, qualified Petroleum Engineers who can successfully pursue careers in the oil and gas production and services industries or similar areas. Graduates of the program will understand the fundamental principles of science and engineering behind the technology of petroleum engineering. Through a blend of unique theoretical knowledge and practical applications, students in this program develop the skills necessary to address the evolving needs of the oil and gas industry while fostering innovation, sustainability, and environmental stewardship.

Learning Objectives. Upon completion of the B.S.P.E. program, students will be able to integrate key science and engineering principles to address the technological challenges of the petroleum and natural gas industry, by:

  • developing a working knowledge of fluid mechanics, strength of materials, transport phenomena, material properties, phase behavior, and thermodynamics
  • understanding design and analysis of well systems and procedures for drilling and completing wells identify characterization and evaluation of subsurface geological formations and their resources using geoscientific and engineering methods
  • application of reservoir engineering principles and practices to optimize resource development and management
  • applying effective decision-making skills to mitigate risk and uncertainty
  • completing a major capstone design experience that prepares students for engineering practice, based on the knowledge and skills acquired in earlier coursework and incorporating engineering standards and realistic constraints

Description 

The Exercise and Sports Science (EXSS) minor is designed for students who desire a greater understanding of the physiological and biomechanical principles of exercise and fitness. The minor provides coursework in biomechanical principles, prevention and treatment of injuries, exercise leadership, and health behavior. 

Program Outcome Objectives 

  • Describe the underlying scientific foundations of physical activity. 
  • Evaluate information about physical activity from a scientific basis. 
  • Describe the relationship between physical activity participation and health, wellness, and quality of life. 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of current physical activity guidelines and recommendations.
